Frequently Asked Questions About ImmunoLin
|
1. What is ImmunoLin?
Just as colostrum is the precursor to milk, blood serum is the
precursor to colostrum and ImmunoLin is serum in its most concentrated form.
To understand the relationship between ImmunoLin and colostrum, a quote by Doug
Wyatt (CEO of Symbiotics) in Supplement Industry Executive, June/July 2000 explains
that colostrum is essentially blood serum: "This (colostrum) is blood
without the platelets, and the blood serum in this case is the immune system
that is produced out of the mother's breast. It is an exact copy of the immune
system and contains such elements as growth factors and immune factors. . ."
ImmunoLin is obtained directly from bovine serum and consists of the same immuno-proteins
and growth factors that are contained
in colostrum. As a result, ImmunoLin is not only more concentrated than
colostrum but it is more consistent in composition as well. The bovine serum
used in the preparation of ImmunoLin comes from US beef cattle and is
the richest available source of immuno-proteins. More than half of the immuno-proteins
found in ImmunoLin are immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM, and IgA). Immunoglobulins
are a very specialized type of protein used to help protect an animal from disease.
ImmunoLin is the first immunoglobulin-rich supplement to utilize a USDA inspected
and approved source of immunoglobulin.

2. Why do people use ImmunoLin?
As the incidence of antibiotic resistant bacteria continues to increase worldwide, ImmunoLin
gives people the choice of supplemental immunological protection in the form
of bovine immunoglobulin. Stress, poor nutrition, dieting, travel, disease,
medical therapies, strenuous athletic training, and genetic disorders can all
contribute to a weakened immune system. ImmunoLin can also be used to
support a healthy, functional digestive system. ImmunoLin is designed
for those people who desire better health through a stronger immune system.
Unlike colostrum, ImmunoLin does not contain any dairy products such as
lactose, casein, or lactoglobulins which makes it the product of choice for
people who are lactose intolerant and/or allergic to milk products. The Dietary
Supplement Health and Education Act was designed to give consumers access to
safe, natural products, like ImmunoLin, that they can use to support and
maintain their own health.

3. What ensures that ImmunoLin is a safe product to use?
ImmunoLin consists of naturally occurring proteins that are concentrated using stringent
quality control procedures. The raw material is collected in USDA-inspected
facilities and approved for use in food products. The purification of ImmunoLin
takes place in a closed system, which insures against contamination. The facility
itself is compliant with FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for food products.
To eliminate the risk of mad cow disease (BSE), only U.S. beef cattle are used
in the production of ImmunoLin. It is also important to note that bovine
growth hormone (rBST) is approved for use in dairy cattle, not beef. The final
product must meet more stringent internal quality standards than the standards
for ingredients used in infant formula.

4. How is ImmunoLin declared on the label of a dietary supplement?
We recommend to manufacturers that they use the brand name, ImmunoLin, as well as the
common and usual term for ImmunoLin, "Immunoglobulin concentrate (from
bovine serum)". We also suggest that the level of the active component in the
product, IgG, be stated on the label. Consumers should know what they are purchasing.
The name "ImmunoLin" on the label represents a product with the highest
quality immune support ingredient on the market.

5. Is ImmunoLin safe to consume?
Immunoglobulin has been consumed for centuries in the form of milk, colostrum and meat products.
More than 100 published studies have documented the safety of oral immunoglobulin
for immune support. In addition, Proliant has conducted clinical studies evaluating
bovine serum-based immunoglobulin in both children and adults. The studies found
that serum based products like ImmunoLin are safe and acceptable for human
consumption.1,2,3
A recent letter to the editor published in the New England
Journal of Medicine raised some concerns about the use of "raw animal tissues
and dietary supplements". Proliant Inc. has invested years of research and experience
in food ingredients into the development of ImmunoLin. We, nor any quality
supplement manufacturer we are aware of, utilizes "raw animal tissues" in dietary
supplements. Animal proteins, including immunoglobulin, when produced responsibly
with the proper techniques in place, contribute daily to the health and quality
of life of millions of people. We hope that your questions about ImmunoLin
have been answered and you, too, will experience the better health it offers.
